Escondido is a city located in Southern California just north of San Diego. Founded in 1888, it is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County, and one of the top 25 most conservative cities in the United States. The city of Escondido has population of approximately 134,000 people as of the 2000 US Census, with 43,800 households and 31,000 families. It is a very demographically diverse and friendly city, and can be divided into two distinct areas, the peripheral hilly areas to the north, southeast and southwest, and the flat areas downtown.
